• TacticalWiki Upgrade & Access Modifications

TacticalWiki.com was updated today to the latest version of MediaWiki. As part of this upgrade, I have incorporated some long-awaited access control systems. These systems are in place now and have the following impact on ALL users of the Wiki.
• Guest users can not edit any content or pages within the Wiki.
• Registered users can not edit any content or pages within the Wiki.
• To obtain access to edit pages, you must be added to the Contributors group. Anyone with SysOp access can add you to this group. A list of currently registered SysOps is listed below.
• Contributors can add, edit and move content within the Wiki.
• SysOps can add, edit and move content within the Wiki as well as grant others Contributor access.

Current Wiki SysOps: Asch, Pokerface, Squeak, TG_Mateo, Verbose, Apophis

The benefits of registration without contribution are... adding pages that have an open link? Or is that covered under "editing"?

Re: TacticalWiki Upgrade & Access Modifications

Nope, registered users don't have any access to do any modifying on the Wiki. In fact, it seems like the only reason to register is so you can get contributor access.

Probably my fault, since I reported some spammers. The upgrade was probably my fault too, because there was a bug with our version of MediaWiki and the PHP version on the server. So, the SysOps can blame their increased workload on me :p

Perry hit the nail on the head. The only benefit to registering is to get Contributor access. Other than that, there is no need to register at all.

A note: Sysops can't contribute, unless they add themselves to the "Contributor" group. Good thing we have access to do THAT. :)

Thanks for the alert, Poker. I shall go correct that now.
