  • Farewell Tomcat....

An era in Naval Aviation history has come to a close. I've got lots of fond memories working on the Tomcat, watching them from vultures row, and Top Gun of course ;) Fair winds and following seas.....

    USA Today
VIRGINIA BEACH — Today the Navy holsters the F-14 Tomcat, the top gun in its Cold War arsenal and one of the most recognizable warplanes in history.
Maintenance costs for the F-14 have soared, and its replacement, the F/A-18 Super Hornet, is more versatile and cheaper to maintain.

My baby goes to the razorblade factory today....or to some foreign country that needs aircraft. Either way, a sad day for naval aviation. What a goddamn sexy plane it was to fly.

Wow, this makes me feel old. The F-14 and the F-15 were THE planes (back in my day!) not that long ago. Hard to believe the Tomcat is being retired.

I guess I need to update my naval aviation library.

just wait until 1.5 i hear they have it auto lock and fire now.

THE F-14 IN ACTION Soviet escorts: Frequently, Soviet aircraft would fly close to U.S. warships. In many cases, F-14s would fly up to meet bombers or other craft and "escort" them away from the fleet.

I have a feeling that the soviets dint have a choice in that one.

                  And goodbye AIM-52.

Well, those Iranians over there still use the F-14.

They cant fly them because they dont have any parts. So it works out good

Well, they could fabricate their own parts and yeah..plus they have thos HAWK Missiles, but the USAF has a 99.9% of shooting them down if they get airborne and come.

It's a big loss to naval airforce. It was great plane.
