  • 3 hours 17 minutes (confirmation pending)

For those who don't know, I'm hardly in the best of physical condition. This is mostly due to my love for pizza coming only second to my love for hot women.

In the thread title, you'll find my unconfirmed time for the half marathon I've just run. I'll update the thread on Friday, providing I haven't died from a heart attack or suchlike. FWIW, the course I just ran (limped for the last few miles) is recognised as the hardest half marathon in the UK, and always has top competitive marathon runners taking part in preparation for the London marathon.

To put things in perspective, I did beat a fairy, and managed to find a burst of fast crawling at the finish line to beat two girls who were wearing pink. My manly pride > pain. ;)

Man at 76, I would think running from the refrigerator to the armchair would take you 3 hours 17 minutes. ;)

Good job on a half marathon.

Root, as someone who has been running since I was in 6th grade, I can tell you that what you've just done, regardless of the time it took you, is an enormous feat. It takes large brass cojones to decide "hey, i'm going to go run 13.1 miles for fun!". Ask around and see how many people you know would have willingly given up a nice sunday afternoon to go wear themselves ragged over that kind of distance. I doubt you'll be getting many respondees who will want to go with you next time.

My hat is off to you sir.

                Good job mate.
                That is an enviable achievement.

(I am in good shape and I certainly couldn't run a half marathon.)

Considering I can only run one mile or so before I have to start walking, that's pretty good. But then again I'm a swimmer, so I don't need to run when global warming kicks in :p.

O M G...I just saw the age...I'm impressed you even finished the marathon Root.

Take a long break, have a few beers, and hang out with some of those marathon chicks :p

Thanks guys. I've been asleep for the past 6 hours or so, and I'm still in no end of pain. It also turns out I have minor sunstroke and a whopping headache. No gaming for me tonight - you'll have to get your kicks out of killing some other bozo for a change. :)

Y'all are gonna keep doing that, ain't ya? Picking on the invalids. Tsk. :D

I certainly feel pretty old right now. As soon as my left leg re-attaches itself to the rest of me, and the industrial strength pain killers get to work, I'm sure I'll feel more in line with the average age around here.

Oh man. You should have seen them. Loads of them, all in their mid 20's. <drool>

On a serious note, do any of you runners know if it's normal to feel an awful lot of tingling in your fingers, and a.....bloated.....sensation in them? I swear they even looked fat by the time I hit the 9 mile marker.

I think you should go see your doctor ASAP. That doesn't sound too good to me and at your age, you can't take any risks.
