  • Transformers (spoiler warning)

Ok folks, let's have a proper spoiler-warned xformers thread so we can discuss this movie. I JUST got back from the theatre... and I am near speechless.... zomg

Many people were deathly afraid, myself included, that Hollywood would drop the ball on this mythical toy franchise. Hell, the trailers were dispicable. I grew up in the hey-day of Transformers - I literally had every single original toy... from optimus prime, to omega supreme... including all the hybrids like the dinobots and insecticons, etc. So, needless to say my expectations were ridiculously high - unjustly so.

BUT, after seeing the movie you soon realize that the trailers were designed to totally fool the public. The movie is exponentially better then ANYTHING anyone could even remotely fathom! I've NEVER in my life (and I'm an avid movie-goer) been able to say such a thing since... well... Star Wars. It gives added meaning to "More then meets the eye." Which they repeat over and over, and it never gets old :)

I could just go on and on about this film... it will go down as one of the best bar-none. It was one of the most expensive to make, but it'll easily be one of the most profitable anyways. They just got everything right. Even the dry wit and humor from the cartoons is evident in the movie and done perfectly.

In between fits of laughing you found your jaw on the floor and your nails dug into the armrest. The action is more intense, gripping, and engaging then even a movie like Blackhawk Down.

My god, this movie also showcased some of the most technologically advanced weaponry America has in its arsenal. And I'm not talkin CGI... we're talking real-life F-22's, Ospreys, Blackhawks, C130s, and on and on. How the hell did they get use of that equipment? Not to mention the endless array of expensive vehicles like new concept Camaros that will soon be production. This movie is a patriot's wet-dream between the all-american cars and the unbridled displays of American firepower. They even had that new semi-auto. grenade launcher with mini-SABOT ammo.

The actors?? The trailer makes you think there are none... when in fact it's like every actor in the universe wanted a piece of this movie. Even Bernie Mac made an appearance. The lead actor (Shia LeBoeuf), I thought did a wonderful job as well... although a few moments were a tad overacted.

I'm going to stop here... but please add more thoughts. I thought a new thread with a spoiler warning was appropriate so we could discuss this great flick.

As much as I love to promote American cars, the sellout to GM was not pleasing to me. It was cute when Bumblebee pulled in next to the yellow beetle, though...

The action was incredible, and the effects were fantastic. The story was shallow, but that's to be expected with such a movie.

I also didn't like the way they finished the movie, which so obviously left it open for a sequel.

Overall, a good action flick that was about as good as Hollywood gets to respecting original stories.

One of the best films ever? It'll never break the AFI's top 100, IMO. It was good, but not great.

Its a pretty fun high tempo action summer action movie but in the end its still a Michael Bay movie and the typical flaws are still there. The action sequences were grand and overall it just makes me happy to see Transformers be presented to the larger public in a positive light....this will likely launch a few sequels. I'd give it a 7/10 on a critical level but give it extra praise for doing a great job at filling the summer action movie genre.

It kicked all kinds of ass!
I am a 30somthing year old and I grew up watching it as a kid.
When I heard it was a GM advertisment as a movie a little peace of me died.
I also heard that Michael Bay was doing it...
Common, he did Pearl Harbor and Armageddon.Such classy movies they are.
But I was wrong, this movie lived up to everything I had hoped and then some.
And there was just enough T&A and Car Porn, but that wasn't even close to being a "Double pumper", it was Hilborn crossover injection manifold.(Car Porn X 11000378234234^1000000000000000)
Anyway at the end when you see Starscream take off and Prime call in the rest of the Autobots, you know there will be at least 2 more movies.:)

        I can't wait.

This movie rocked so hardcore. I was one of those kids that NEVER missed an episode of transformers. Hell i still even have some toy remakes from the old molds that are pretty expensive.

It scores a 10 because they brought me back to when i was watching the cartoon every morning at the age of 5.

I didn't go into looking for the deepest story, Transformers was never about that, it's always been about the cool things the different transformers could do and seeing new ones.

I loved it and can't wait to see it again. I had a hard time catching what the transformers were saying sometimes but I was so blown away by the effects that i'll have to watch it again a few times.

Agreed here. I know I might have stretched it saying it's one of the best movies I've ever seen. But the fact is, I havent felt this ENTERTAINED in a movie theatre in a LONG LONG time. Part of this is because I'm a Transformers fanboy, yeah. So what :)

My gf who barely knows what a transformer is said the same exact things I did. On pure entertainment value... this movie is way up there. Is it some swanky art-piece? nope... and that's good

Anyone else catch the subtle "immigration policy" antics with the Spanish-speaking soldier not wanting to speak English? Not to mention just the whole koombaya "America United" feeling from all the American products in the film (dewalt, bosch, GM, a transformer that shoots mountain dew cans?)... and the endless grandstanding against China, Russia, and N. Korea. The jab at bush in AF1 was nice too.

There's lots of little things in this movie that make it all the more precious. Endless bits of "more than meets the eye."

Yeah, my post came off as being too negative. I thoroughly enjoyed the movie and will be buying it on DVD as soon as it is released, as (besides the bathroom break for my kid) I felt like there were a lot of little things that I missed, but that I'll catch after seeing it a few more times!

I got to see it on the 2nd. I needed new pants, so did everyone around me. Holy crap. I'm still speechless.

Plus, the fact that Optimus Prime had the sword...oh...my...god...

I have to say the scene at the parents house had me floored.Hearing Optimus grumbling at the rest for never being quiet killed me lol.

I absolutely loved it. It will probably be the best action flick this year, and may end up my favorite movie of the year.

The CGI was easily the best I've seen and the design of the transformers themselves was amazing -the pieces actually fit together correctly.

They really nailed the dry witty humor and that really helps make the movie more than your typical action flick. And, having the original voice of Optimus Prime brought back some cool memories from the cartoon.

                        Re: Transformers (spoiler warning)

CGI-wise the only movie I've seen so far that comes close to xformers is Chronicles of Narnia (subtle breakthroughs, but they're there). The texturing was ridiculously believable, as were the animations. I totally forgot I was looking at a computer animation and really thought there were robots walking the streets.

The other major deal was the amount of human-CGI interaction. This movie set a new standard for that aspect where not only are the animations top-notch, but the way they interact with the environment is also. I'd LOVE to see how they actually made this movie.

And the live sets were absolutely sick. $100 million put to good use I'd say. It's not all animations that's for sure and the amount of work that musta went into those sets and stunts boggles my mind.

I'm trying to think of my favorite moment in the movie... cant quite yet

by far my favorite moment was Optimus laying the smackdown on Bonecrusher with his sword. That was ridiculously awesome.

Now, you know he only whips out the sword on Megatron. But in this case, he unloaded it on Destructor. Who I believe is the leader of the Destructicons. Who in turn collectively transform into the supergiant robot Devastator (maybe in the sequel).

actually it was bonecrusher, I found it on the wiki
                              http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bonecru...%29#Movie_plot
