  • Five Famous People You Would Like To Have Dinner With

Last Christmas as I drove back from home, the North Shore (NE Massachusetts), to Pensacola, western most part of Florida, I attempted to keep myself busy a number of ways. One of the things I came up with was figuring out who I would like to share dinner with if given the opportunity. Since I got back I kept meaning to post it and see who other people would choose but it kept slipping my mind. Anyways, I finally remembered so here it goes.

The guidelines I gave myself was that the person had to be have been alive at one point during my life time and they had to be famous.

The following are my choices in no particular order.

    1. Ben Stein - Always liked him for some reason and there are few people who have done as much as he has.

    2. Larry Bird - My favorite athlete of all time. With the exception of Magic and MJ there is no other team athlete that has not only given everything he had to win but demanded and got the same from his teammates.

    3. Eric Clapton - Top 5 Guitarists of all time.

    4. Michelle Rodriguez - Got to have some estrogen at the dinner table. The biggest hurdle in meeting a celebrity is getting that chance to meet and talk to them. What better way to meet a female celebrity than at a fantasy dinner. I find myself attracted to women who are the outdoors/adventurous types with a bit of a bite to them and Rodriguez certainly fits those criteria.

    5. Bill Gates - Someone would have to reach for the check. I want to find out what the wealthiest man in the world is like in person.

Assuming they would have to be alive today to be considered as options,

    1. George Bush

    2. General Petraeus

    3. Osama Bin Laden

    4. Bill Gates

    5. Dick Cheney

Life in Bogota is a lot like a big box of Colombian chocolates. You never know when you'll get blown up by the FARC.

This was in a movie. Oh yeah, Airborne, but it was lunch and not dinner. :)

My five (assuming I could get a universal translator so I could speak the languages):

      Socrates
      Sun Tzu
      Winston Churchill
      Thomas Edison
Barbara Patten (my maternal grandmother who died a year before I was born)

Wow....the first thing that popped in my head was "Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure"

        Who to pick?

        1. Jesus Christ: For the obvious reason's
        2. Oskar Schindler: To give him a "High 5"
        3. Benedict Arnold: I want his side of the story;)
        4. King Leonidas: That would be so badass.
        5. The Prophet Muhammad: I got a few questions to ask him.

Can you imagine the dinner conversation:)

*edit* I read your entire post and it said famous people while you were "alive". I think I did it wrong;)

well, who are currently alive or were alive in your lifetime. It doesnt matter a whole lot. I did it because I could easily fill a dining room let alone a table with the classic figures I would like to meet. Going with a smaller and more modern time frame made me think a bit more about why I wanted a particular person. I originally did this to keep myself awake while I drove 1450 miles (22 hours) alone.

Alistair Reynolds : to discuss the future of mankind, and deep future. The best contemporary science fiction writer.

Palden Gyatso : go read the book already)

Noam Chomsky : for the incredible amount of info in that man's head, and to discuss linguistics and it's relevance to psychology)

Don Juan : from the books of Carlos Castaneda)

Jessica Alba : beautiful, and perhaps more then just that)

Also I would ask to hear all the details of Beatnik's dinner with Bill Hicks, a remarkable person, and of Grunt's dinner with Stephen Hawking.

                        In no particular order:

Musashi Miyamoto - The greatest swordsman to ever live
Batman - A resourceful and cunning foe
Goliath - A warrior of biblical strength, literally
Genghis Khan - The most powerful conquerer to walk the Earth
The rabbit from Monty Python's Search for the Holy Grail - a rabbit

It would be the craziest most awesome dinner-followed-by-death-match ever witnessed by man. I'd YouTube the entire thing for posterity. After they're done killing each other I get a very cool katana, Batman's utility belt, and luckiest rabbit's foot ever. Plus by the defeat of Goliath and Genghis Khan I'll inherit a Mongol army and a legitimate claim to the kingdom of Israel.

Honestly, I think I thought out my choices a lot better then the rest of you.

I'm assuming that you would get to talk openly with the people and that they would feel comfortable revealing their true feelings on the topics at hand. Otherwise, I would have a very different list. :)

                            King Abdullah II
                            Colin Powell
                            Mahmoud Ahmadinejad
                            Vladimir Putin
                            Earvin "Magic" Johnson

Edit: BTW, I almost put Larry Bird as the last one and I didn't know that he was on Aculle's list - that rivalry was unbelievable
