  • Game detectives wanted!

So guys I am need of help finding a game, my fiance is really into adventure games she has been enjoying a bunch of the fee user made games that can be found on the web such as 'daymare town' and 'submachine'. So here I am trying to blossom her taste for computer games so she can't complain at me for playing them so much [insert evil cackle]. Well I have bought two games recently both she has very much enjoyed. The first was Fullipe (a steam download) with great charaters and sound effects and logical puzzles she really enjoyed it. The second was Secret files: Tungustka, although she did enjoy this as well the sometimeas not very logical puzzles and the more serious story put her off some.

So I was browsing the internet and found a game called 'Day of the Tentacle' this looked like the perfect game for her, with wacky graphics, sounds and story elements. However I cannot find this game anywhere on the web to buy in Britian (I am not willing to use ebay, due to being shafted on that before). So basically if anyone can surgest some websites or shops that might sell to Britian that would be great or else some other zainy point and click adventure games like that ?

    Cheers, Disciple.

I don't have the game, but some tips:

You might want to look into "abandonware". Don't really know whats the legal status is on that in the UK.

Also, check out scummvm, a great program that allows you to run old adventure games on almost any current OS: http://www.scummvm.org/ (you still need to own the game itself)

Other classic adventure games your girl might enjoy:
Kings Quest Series (all about kings, prince and princess stories)
Sam & Max Hit the Road (also the new Sam&Max games)
    Grim Fandango
    Gabriel Knight (more serious story)
    Full Throttle
Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis

If you get Day of the Tentacle make sure to get the CD version! One of the first games that featured voice actors. The first one I played was Gabriel Knight. Great stuff.

Since you have steam, you can get Portal First Slice and Peggle Extreme for free. I don't know if she would like Lost coast, but that's included as well.

Portal first slice is, I believe, the first 10 levels in portal. If she really enjoys it, I think it's like $10 or you can find the whole orange box for <$30 these days.

anyway, to get these just google either
"nvidia steam offer" or "ati steam offer" depending on your card

            Re: Game detectives wanted!

Since these games are long since abonned, bittorrent isn't that much of a guilty thing since it finding these games on the web or in stores is like trying to find a 10 pound bar of gold in your backyard.

I got Full Throttle, Day of the Tentacle, and other games off of places and they were great.

Quirky and fun. Much like the Kings Quest series.

Yep. Definitely the Monkey Island games. I was also going to suggest Leisure Suit Larry, but you might not want to go there.

Yes. Check out the old LucasArts game for sure. They made some of the best adventure games ever. One of my favs was Maniac Mansion, which came before and led to Day of the Tentacle. You can find it pretty easily for the NES. I have the original, but the rom is easy to find. It's a really fun game. In the original on the pc, you could microwave the hamster. Good times. :D

Also, check out the Space Quest series. Another fun one that had great graphics and a fun story was "Torin's Passage." Honestly, these old point and click adventure games are my favorite genre ever! PM me and maybe I can personally hook you up with some classics. Wink wink. ;)

                      Re: Game detectives wanted!

I love the Quest for Glory series. QfG2 was just remade, and is available for free here: http://www.agdinteractive.com/ I believe the first three are available on Gametap as well. They're a lot of fun and somewhat lighthearted too.

Also, Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis was an absolutely amazing game. It has some replayability as well, since a few hours in you can choose one of three 'paths' to follow.

I believe this is available on Steam as well. I enjoyed both.

My wife really likes Spore. She didn't think she would, but after she started playing a little, she fell in love with her little creature/tribe/civilization/whatever. High replayability as well.
