  • Remembrance Day Gaming.

    I have an informal request.

Don't play war games on Remembrance Day.

    It just feels.. wrong.
Read a book... Watch an inspiring movie...

Just don't play war games on a day like that.

    Thoughts?

      I can respect that.

      Will do.

Thanks for the reminder to do the right thing, for me, on this day. I could so have easily been selfish. Thank you.

My wishes to all those who have seen, and are seeing war. I could not comprehend the oblivion to souls, millions have had to face in their lives, on the fields or in their homes, after or during. I am glad to not had to do it. In that, I'm very lucky.

As a retired CWO2 I think it's a horrible idea. The very nature of our dedication and service is to protect your way of life. Enjoy your life the way you want otherwise our sacrifices are in vain.

Maybe I'll just watch Saving Private Ryan :)

Nov 11th was my uncle's birthday; he was a Navy electrician on board an aircraft carrier during the 60s, then a police officer. I celebrate his birthday by practicing the freedoms he served to protect.

                    Lol at dirtboy!

Rememberance day for me means attending my uncles grave with the family and former regiment guys, then going to the pub for a short one. But after all that, this current territorial Ranger will be in.

                      Re: Remembrance Day Gaming.

It's a personal choice here, there is no "right" or "wrong" choice except the one you hold in your spirit. Make the right choice and don't be selfish with the day off.

For myself, I won't be playing that day, because what the men and women around the world do is not a game, and by not playing by choice I acknowledge that to myself and remind myself not to take my lifestyle for granted.

The incredible suffering and misery of war past and present pays for this blessing I live under the protection of. So the worst thing I think I could do on this day for myself is pretend this blessing does not have a cost.

I can agree with lead and cougar's perspective, if that is what you feel respects the day the best, then do that. But don't be selfish with the day no matter what you do.

Thank a veteran, thank an enlisted man or woman. Vote when the opportunty arises, engage yourself in your local politics, read a religious or philisophical text from an opposing perspective. As lead says: "enjoy your life the way you want..."

                      Because you can.

                          Re: Remembrance Day Gaming.

We could be "gaming" in honor of those who serve, specifically because we play a game centered around them.

I've considered that, but that may be your intentions only deep down... Games are a form of entertainment at the surface... so.. I kinda don't see it that way

                              Re: Remembrance Day Gaming.

I'll be heading down to the veteran's museum in Philadelphia on the 11th, I'll also be attending the grand reopening of the Intrepid museum this Sunday. I think sirsolo has a point, but just do what you think is best and make sure to do something, even if it's just doing a little reading on wikipedia. Call up a grandfather or uncle who served, or sit down and write a letter to a service member overseas.

*moved to the general forum, I think this doesn't just apply to us.

I didn't join a squad once and this guy named Nardini took me into the back room and beat me with a sock of oranges.
