• What would you have done

You should learn abit about false intimidation,

I was with Swiss reserves on a Rangering over Turkey, and after the drop we were interrupted by a mysterious militant party near a former Hizballah bunker. At first we arrived my C.o told us to holster our rifles, and let him do the talking. Then I noticed a BLU113 shell hardly intact, and an obviously large hole in this bunker. I guesstimated that it couldn't have been more then six days old, the soil was still unsettled.

We were now were confronted by this group. They didn't holster their weapons( they seemed compact but I'm sure from the barrel size its an ak74) They started speaking latin which was really weird. Luckily We did have a Feldweibel( I think in English this would be a sergeant of some kind) that studied latin. We were able to communicate with them, they said they were a group of police officers investigating a crash site. From then on I was sure they were pillaging the place (I could smell the bull **** coming out of there mouth, or maybe that was what they were drinking?) Why would Turkish police officers speak Latin, and why would they be at a bunker next to a broken B.B shell? At any rate this ruined our training exercise, so my ever inspiring C.o decided this is a great opportunity to practice foraging and Waldläufer( which is kind of like basic infantry movement with alot of baggage). But before that we had to set up camp, we set up 2.5 km east, near a little swamp like ditch. My spotter Adalbert To check up on them with the fielders. There was no activity for around three hours.

They came out of the bunker, guns literally blazing shouting so loud you could wake up the dead. We got up and flashed into the water, kept guns on top of our heads. Then the radio sprung on, our A-trans is coming in around two hours( for sake of keeping it simple). We got out, saw them moving towards us and packed up the camp, we set out a flare. Ran into the small forestiere on the other side of the ditch and set up a trench like positioning, directed not to fire we solely raised sights. Then Adalbert about to say something, and an explosion hit seven feet in front of. The metal starter near are camp Exploded raising shrapnel and hit the tree in front of his eyes. None of them hit his face, but unfortunately the left side of his body torn through. I saw the blood on his vest and a green fluid pouring from it. I was sure he wasn't going to make it. We didn't have time A-trans was over head and we were pinned, with one wounded. The C.o was able to strum up the words "öffnen Sie Feuer!", We stoop from the forestry ( lightened Armor from the unsteady Rangering). I took it off Saf.t and pulled the trigger. I'm pretty sure I had some kind of heart palpitation, my throat closed. I saw the attackers fall. After the fire stopped, we were told to search the bodies for identification which they with held from us. We found nothing. The bird at this point has settled, I checked the weaponry and their gear. I found enough plastic explosives to mortify a town. They must have been raiders or some kind of scavengers. We got onto the A-trans and were ready to take off when. Tac-Tac-Tac bullets hit the side of the tail. I see two Jeeps coming up fast, I signal to my C.o "Quick take off!". The blades wind together and were up in 40secondes. Signaling back to Air recovery. " Unter Feuerwiederholung unter Feuer, Bitten um Zerhackerunterstützung" Were too low the jeeps are able to follow at a moderate pace for around twenty minutes. I see them weaving, then on my right Walder ( my cousin ). Shouts" two more merging in with them. I saw a bright colored hummer without a roof, a man wearing a spec ops hat and holding an rpg in the back seat of the newly merged desert movers.I hear a whizzling noise and then.........

If you think that's heavy, I wont tell you the rest. That was the worst week of my life.
Someone might be wandering, Why the hell would this guy post this on a forum thread!?
Well it's honestly to relieve the pain. It does help to talk/write about things.

I'm asking anyone what they might have done In my stead, or my Commanding Officers stead.

P.S: That was my first foreign field exercise...

Nice writing. Needs a little editing but could definitely make a good opening chapter for a Clancy novel. (I'm not saying that's fiction, just encouraging you to take up the pen as a possible career.)

:row__736: I wasn't excepting so many peoples attention directed to this,
This is a entry from my grandfather's service post dramatic stress relieving journal. I wasn't alive at this time. This was in 1979. Everything was written the same way, although it was written in German(translation was difficult at some times).

My wonderful elder gave me the book nine days before he died.
I Would just like to enforce that EVERYTHING IS WRITTEN AS IN HIS JOURNAL, EVEN THE QUESTION, In fact he wrote a lot more questions but I took one or two.

In the future, when quoting someone else, put

around the other person's text, and say where it came from. Otherwise we assume it's your own words.

Was there more to your grandfather's story? I'd like to know what happened next.

I know for a fact six out of nine made it through; Three senior officers, my grand father, his cousin
and there C.o( I honestly forgot his name, He had so many before hand, but I'll check up on it ).
Adalbert and a young recruit who's heart stopped later on in this part of his journal.
He writes that an unknown toxin poisoned his blood stream, I know now that it was a punctured kidney.

There is around 459 pages (including cover, and eleven blank pages for comment.)
You know what, I'll start a thread about this.

Unless of course there already is one?

Re: What would you have done

You already have this thread. Why start a new one? If you want, ask an admin to change the thread title and put a quote block around the first post.

Another possibility is to start a blog (I like Wordpress.com) and post excerpts from the diary there, and then link to them here. That way the posts won't drift off the front page and eventually get deleted, as they will if you post them here. You can get the attention of various veteran sites and have them link to your blog. It would be a great tribute to your grandfather.
