  • Every City has a "word"!

    Hello all,

This conversation came about at dinner the other night between freinds and we were discussing the fact that every city in the world pretty much has one word that sums it up nicely.

We were discussing this as we all felt people here in San Francisco all seem to behave with a sense of "Entitlement". "It's my right to do this...., I want to do x....., You will wait, I am a pedestrian and I have my right of way...., I am a cyclist you will wait....etc etc etc. I dont think I have visited, let alone lived in a city, with so many self serving, opinionated, rule disregaring, "it's my way or the highway", ungrateful .... swines! (was going to use a much worse word!) in my life!

I think you get the point. I have been fortunate to have travelled the world and to have been to a great many different cities and when thinkng about this, pretty much every city does in fact have a word that sums it up perfectly.

    For example:

    San Francisco: Entitlement

    London: Expensive

Paris: Rude (although to be fair many cities I find have become more rude over the years)

    Los Angeles: False

    New York: Selfish

    Las Vegas: Partytime

    etc etc....

So I thought I would create this thread and see what other's experiences are, or even your own nearest town.... obviously lets not try and offend anyone too much here! ;)

I would also ask that your "word" for a city is based on actually having been there and it's your own opinion rather than anything you have seen, or read about.

    Have at it!.......

San Antonio: antiquated (For a bigger city, it's always behind the times about 10 years)

    Austin: Unique

    Trenton, NJ: Scary

    Tokyo: Neon

    Bangkok: Seedy

Also, Detroit is what you call another city that you think is a pile.

methinks he was expecting to see snoop and dre come rolling by on blades and catching a strong whiff of pot. either that or he was expecting to be gunned down in a drive by.
