NC sheriff's deputy uses Corvette to stop speeders

RALEIGH, N.C. At least one sheriff's deputy in North Carolina won't have any trouble catching speeders. Multiple media outlets reported Wednesday that the Wake County Sheriff's Department has a Chevrolet Corvette Z06. Chevrolet said the car has a top track speed of 198 mph, with a base sticker price of $74,875. Its V8 racing engine generates 505 horsepower.

Sheriff's spokeswoman Phyllis Stevens said the car didn't cost the county any money since it was seized from a drug dealer.

Wake County isn't the first to used souped up cars.

Former Davidson County Sheriff Gerald Hege once had a Chevrolet Impala SS with a Corvette engine

Former Forsyth County Sheriff Ron Barker used several Camaro Z28s for traffic enforcement.

I remember seeing high-powered sports cars branded with Florida Highway Patrol's logo. When I still lived there.

While I attended the University of California at Riverside, I worked at the campus police department as a Community Service Officer (basically unarmed security). All the campus police cars were Ford Crown Victoria models with Corvette engines. I guess this sheriff's department just took it one step further.

I'm not sure what their arsenal includes these days, but when I was in 7th grade, the Tampa Police Department had a Porsche 911.

I love how law enforcement uses seized drug cars and uses them to tackle crime. Good stuff, haha.

It's like a duck leading the ducklings :)

We had a corvette from a drug seizure but it wasn't used in regular duties, just for publicity events. It kinda backfired since they would announce it was from a drug seizure and students would say "So if you sell drugs you can buy a corvette? Sweet!"
