  • Flash issues with ATi

    Hey Guys,

So I treated myself to a new laptop last month, the thing is a beast. However I have one recurring problem that I can not seem to fix, and that is the flash playback. I use Google Chrome. I have reinstalled the browser, the graphics drivers (Mobility 5870) and all signs of flash on the thing and still I struggle to watch more that 30 seconds of video online before it goes all static. This includes youtube and BBC iPlayer. I am out of ideas, but this is very frustrating.

I assume this is an issue with the card, as my desktop uses Nvidia and has none of these issues. I tried another browser (IE9's latest beta) and had the same issues, although far less severe.

The other thing as well, even though I just turned on the GPU rendering on Chrome, it makes no difference. Also, the GPU rendering in IE9 is WAY more efficient. Anyway, help and ideas welcomed!

Usually stays in the video window, but it has on occasion went outside of that. and it is coloured, like chunks of the video floating around almost.

I had a similar issue with my wife's Toshiba....and that utilized an Nvidia VGA, the solution?.....It was a bad sound driver. Once I narrowed it down to that the problem cleared up. It would be easy to try and see if that is your issue. Just go to the manufacturers site and get the latest and greatest drivers and reinstall them....hope it works :)

Is this the switchable "Optimus" graphics? If so, have you tried switching it from the HD graphics to the nV powered one (and vice versa)?
