  • Sloppy Arithmetic Processor

    Kind of a nifty little article one of my aggregates pointed me to: http://www.physorg.com/news/2011-01-...rithmetic.html

    Thing that kind of disappoints me though is that the article doesn't seem to have any sort of mention about error-checking. Yeah, the point is to use the chip for processes that don't need absolute precision but I'd still imagine some sort of error-check would end up being stuck in somewhere.

    Reminds me of an article I read about this scientist who was trying to design a CPU based off of the brain. It is similar to this in that it would have lots of small errors and such but would be much more powerful. Parts of the processor would conclude one answer while the majority would have the correct answer.
