  • Webcam for surveillance

I work from home a lot on robotics, using Remote Desktop to a lab PC. Most of the time the stuff I work on doesn't need me to see the "robot". But occasionally I need to see the thing moving. The readouts on the lab PC aren't always enough for me to understand where the robot is. I was thinking about getting an "IP camera" (which integrates a camera with a tiny embedded computer and a network interface for direct connection to the LAN) for the lab to avoid loading down the regular lab PC with camera processing. But IP cameras start at $100 and go up, while a USB web cam is considerably cheaper.

Have you tried to use a USB camera for this kind of thing? What did you end up buying?
    Dude, seriously, WHAT handkerchief?
