  • Need Upgrade Advice

    I have a 2004 Dell e510. Never upgraded it. Hoping to get it to BFBC2/Red Orchestra 2/BF3 capable levels (Guess this means Dx11). It has a "128MB ATI Radeon X300 SE video card" right now.

    Re: Need Upgrade Advice

    I read 2004 and "don't bother - rebuild" goes off in my head.

    What is your current CPU? Rest of Specs?

      Actually 2005, I mistyped. What do you mean by CPU? I think I can still use most of it. Maybe just need a new power supply and graphics card. It can run 2142 on medium and Source games fairly easily.

        CPU = http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CPU

        The difference in requirements for 2142/source games(games built for 2005 tech) and the games you listed(2010-11 tech) is quite large. If your not rocking at least a solid dual core it will probably be a waste of time updating the gpu.

          Yeah no dual core. Guess I'll have to get a whole new machine. Thanks for the help.

            How much can you spend on a new build?

              No idea. How much would it probably cost to build a computer for modern games?

                If this is the pc you have then you will most likely not be able to play the modern games.

                  I love it when people describe their computers as a year, like it's a car or something. I've had SO many people come to me for computer help and say the same type of thing. In all seriousness, though, it's due time for a new computer if you want to play some of the modern games with demanding requirements.

                    That seriously depends on how much you have to spend.

                    Off hand, you're looking at spending at least $600 if you want a rig to play BC2 @ medium settings on 1680 x 1050 or higher resolution and any other future titles like BF3 (guess since we don't have recommended specs yet). Tack on at least another $100 if you want the latest Intel chipsets and CPUs.
