It's been happening for a while. I really think it's no big deal since the data can used to find dead spots for calls.
Keep in mind that phone companies have always recoded what cell you are connected to and where it moves to. In reality its no big deal as long as you don't give access to your computer to someone you don't trust. At that point where you have been is the least of your troubles.

It's all over the news now. That's kinda jacked up it can't be turned off without jailbreaking and using an unauthorized app. Do we expect anything less from Apple, though? For some reason this doesn't shock me. Still not cool, though.
Yes, mindkill, they do. However, on android, you get a huge full screen notification about it and the option to opt out the very first time you boot up the phone (you can also disable it from the settings menu at any time). With the iphone, its subversive and you cant disable it without jailbreaking, as pointed out.
