  • Does My Web Site Crash Your Video Driver?

    Greetings,

I need help assessing if my Web site will not work on other computers.

If you would not mind taking a few minutes to surf over to my web site and let the first page run for a while. It has 6 small videos that play on a loop in the header, sound off.

This design has been crashing my adobe flash (fixed after I turned off hardware acceleration), and my AMD driver -- an older issue I have not been able to resolve.

(It is not a virus issue!)

Run the page for a few minutes and let me know if it is stable. Also refresh the page at least once, as this may trigger a fault.

    Thank you,

    Dr. Strangelove (aka E-Male)

I have let the page run for about....well since my last post. I have reloaded it twice, I haven't noticed anything wrong, all the videos are running fine still.

          Edit: was using Chrome browser

It seems to be running fine, although below the videos, there are boxes telling me that I don't have Flash Player or have an older version, neither of which are true.

            EDIT - Firefox 4.01

Hmm, that is exactly the sort of issue I am trying to monitor. Thanks.

It was doing that to me to yesterday, but darned if I can recall what I did to make it go away.

Has anyone else encountered the Flash Player "bug" on my web site?

Thank you again for all the replies,

No issues to report. Running Google Chrome ver. 11.0.696.60

p.s. I think I saw some Barbie BD/SM stuff in one of the videos. Kinky.

I wonder if it is because chrome uses a different version of flash player.

Re: Does My Web Site Crash Your Video Driver?

I think the display driver crash is only related to those of us running AMD/ATI graphics cards. (Don't quote me as I just flicked down the responses to post this...)

For me, the site loaded fine the first time, but after a quick refresh, Windows told me my display driver crashed. Afterwards, it would repeatedly crash every 10 seconds or so. I'm running Firefox 4.0 with a Radeon HD5830 with driver version 11.3.

I know you're trying to go for a nice look up there in the header, my suggestion would be to get rid of those mini-flash videos (and whatever script you have the client run) and instead use animated GIFs or PNGs.

From experience, it's a very novel idea and it's just that: a novelty. People aren't going to notice or pay any attention to it after viewing it a few more times. Since it causes crashes, that's going to drive people away, rather than to your site.

Re: Does My Web Site Crash Your Video Driver?

                            Thanks again all!

I have fixed the problem -- as far as front page videos go (will take a few more hours to redo the coding on the rest of the site).

                            What a noodle.

It took me (a very amateur web design) 3 hours to get to the heart of the matter and find the solution.

Now I have to recode over sixty video embeds -- what a pain. But at least now it is compliant to the emerging <ivideo> a standard and google/youtube/vimeo standards.

                            I think . . .

Works fine for me, the barbie pictures are a bit creepy though.
