  • GTX 570 or HD 6970?

I am planning to upgrade from an EVGA GTX 275 in the upcoming few weeks. My question is which of these 2 beastly cards should I choose? I was initially leaning towards the 570 because it's good and I've always liked Nvidia's driver support. That said, it only has 1280 MB of video memory compared to 2 GB the 6970 has. So I am wondering how will this affect future games, because I don't want to get shafted in the future.

Also, the rest of my system is:
    ASUS M4A78T-E AM3 motherboard
AMD Phenom II X4 955 BE 3.2 GHZ
4 GB OCZ Reaper DDR3 SDRAM
    Corsair CMPSU-650TX 650W PSU
    Viewsonic VX2250wm 21.5" Monitor @ 1920x1080 resolution
    COOLER MASTER RC-690-KKN1-GP Mid-Tower Case

I am, essentially, looking for a card that will run at my current resolution on my current PSU :)

    Thank you in advance.

Either or are decent cards. I know Toms hardware did a comparison on these cards some time ago. IF i remember correctly the 6970 2g card is 1% lower than the 570 1g card on avg however if you were to run 2x 570s vs 2x6970s the 6970s pull ahead on avg 5% higher than the 570s. For 1% difference overall 2G vram is a plus for the 6970.

The radeon 6xxx series scales marvelously in Xfire. Personally I am getting 2x MSI 6950 1g OC cards and running CFing. Tops a 2g 69702g card easy as well as a 570 1g.

Have you considered getting 2x 6850 1g cards and running Xfire. It will top a 6970 at a lower cost. I have a single sapphire 6850 1g OCd and it chews BF3 up on High Settings 50-60 fps avg.

Anyways. Which ever you decide, 570- 6970 or another option... You will notice your card *570 or 6970* only really hitting 45-50% usuage. These two cards can handle there own but your CPU will be the bottle neck if you go the 570 or 6970 route. However the 955 is sexxxy at OCing. ;)

I remember reading a HardOCP article where it was stated that no game utilizes more than 1.5 GBs of VRAM. And the few that come close have to be run at extreme resolutions with everything forced to max (multiple monitors, extra settings, etc). So I don't think you'll hit a VRAM bottleneck when it comes to the 1280 MB VRAM vs. 2 GB VRAM.
