Has anyone had a similar problem with the ATi cards?

I have a 5870 ATi card and downloaded the lastest 12.3 update and when I install it nothing works. If I open the internet browser I get a warning that video driver has failed and recovered but it loops into going to a black screen and everything is frozen. When I launch Shogun 2 i just goes to a black screen and I can only hear the sounds in the back.

Also, the Catalyst control center doesn't work even before I installed the latest drivers. I am currently using the driver that comes with the CD and everything works perfectly.

    Ideas?

Corrupt driver install/conflict with old driverz. Use driver sweeper
http://www.guru3d.com/category/driversweeper/ and delete all your AMD drivers. Then reinstall 12.3 and CAP3. Let us know how it goes

      Whats CAP3?

You can no longer download driversweeper from there site. They also do not provide any other sites that still support it.

          Re: ATi driver issues

I had similar issues with the new drivers, I got BSOD everytime I booted up my PC, so I went and installed some old drivers but none of that worked, so I used driver sweeper and tried even older drivers but that did not work either, so I uninstalled the drivers then used driver sweeper and re-installed the new drivers and that worked, but my pc took longer to boot up because of "AML device install" everytime I booted up, so I disabled it from starting up in msconfig.

Never had this problem before, so my guess is the new drivers are buged somehow.

            Re: ATi driver issues

I have never had issue with ATi drivers before. I have had issues with nVidia once, but it was an easy fix. I usually recommend NOT updating your drivers unless you need to. They usually post the changes and if they don't effect you (the latest ATi ones seem to be for Crossfire setups), don't install them.

              Thanks kwalc.

Cap is amd's way of releasing updates without bringing out a whole new driver release. It usually involves optimisation of the driver and specific games. It is available as a seperate download off the and downloads page.

I had some issues with the current driver. Did the driver sweep and reinstalled, working great now.
