  • [Help] Failure to boot

Yeah me again. Though not my PC this time. My housemates.

Long story short it just won't boot. Turn on the power and on the post menu it gets up to autodetecting sata3g_1.... then hangs. Options are del for setup, f8 for boot menu. Pressing either will result in an entering setup message but then doesn't do anything.

Also in the post message it doesn't correctly list the usb devices (we only had mouse and keyboard) but it was saying there were 2 keyboards, a mouse and a storage device.

So I'm thinking its a mobo issue or a hdd failure.

Firstly what can I do to troubleshoot further and find out whats the problem piece. Anyone experienced anything similar ever?

Will get the specs of his PC soon and edit in. But it's only about 1month old

1 month old. Take it back. don't even open the case. that's my advice.

Beyond that. Don't overlook the PSU. Fautly PSU can cause all kinds of seemingly unrelated errors.

Well I managed to 'bypass' the issue by applying patience, but the problem is still there I reckon.

Plenty of problems could be there. RAM failure, MOBO failure, HDD. Like Grunt said, if it's a month old don't even bother. Just take it back.

What does this mean? Did you get windows to boot? As suggested, if is under warranty take it back, but you could try this stuff.
          1. Test with your PC HDD to see if it boots into windows.
          2. Check sata and power connectors
          3. In BIOS, boot options, make sure HDD is selected as primary.
          4. Reset CMOS.

          Let us know:)

I've gotten into the BIOS eventually and made sure that the HDD was the primary, that did nothing. I then went to default settings same thing.

Didn't think of resetting the CMOS, will try my HDD in see what happens.

Currently it just takes aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaages to boot up. Just sits on the post screen for a good 10-15mins with no sign of anything happening then just randomly continues on
