  • Laptop Venting Issues

I have a vent on my laptop allowing hot air to be released on it. The past couple of days I have noticed that nothing is coming out of it and it isn't hot either. I'm haaving some technical issues on my computer, do you think this could be on of the causes of the issues? Thank you guys!:row__541::

Is there any hot spots on the laptop? If it isn't venting any air then you will likely be experiencing heat build up which can cause all sort of "fun" things to happen. CPU can shut down, run very slow, and worst case scenario, burn out the mother board from overheating (this usually doesn't happen due to built in safeguards). I have had the fan go on my last laptop and it was fixed under warranty, made a world of difference. It went again and I have had to replace the whole machine.

Hope this helps a little. I'm sure one of the other more qualified guru's around here will chime in with something too.

Make sure the cpu/heatsink fan is actually working/spinning. If not time to open up the laptop and replace it.

Ok, the fan started running again. But it is super hot. Is the normal? Thanks!

              Re: Laptop Venting Issues

Heat is bad!!! If you have to use it still get a laptop cooler (fan unit that goes under laptop). You should be able to pick one up at a local electronics store/department. If you have anything that you'd like to save make sure you have it backed up, just in case.

As Canada2005 said, it sounds like you will need to replace a few parts.

                  What model laptop is this.

I'm sure fleabay will have some fans that will be compatible with your laptop. Pull out your precision screw driver set and open it up.

I would 1st get a can of compressed air, stick a needle through the fan's vent to stop the blades from spinning too fast, and then blow away to get rid of debris.

After that, I strongly recommend this laptop cooler (http://www.amazon.com/Cooler-Master-.../B0079T2KHG/); I have used to upwards of 1,000+ hours and it still work great and really does lower temps substantially.
