    I'm looking for a PCI-E upgrade for under $200.

Also looking at this one for a nVidia alternative:

Get the 6800GS.(the XFX brand...its default at higher clock speeds) The performance difference is very little and depends on the game although from what I've seen I would give the GS the edge. So go with the GS because of:

    - Shader Model 3.0 support
    - Not a refurb.

OR, wait for the 7800GS. Should be launching sometime soon and close to your price range.

I think I need to drop my specs based on power supply, I'm only at 300W and really am not interested in upgrading just for a vidcard. Power calculators put me right on the edge with a 6800GT, right around 304W.

      A 6800 vanilla would run fine, or a 6600GT, or ??

Currently running an X300 PCI-E, BF2 only runs well in low and med. res.

      Thanks for input.

I would just get the 6600GT if the choice is now between the two cards listed. Maybe this chart will help you:

          Re: refurb powercolor X850 pro - $189

After searching the Dell forums I found lots of users who were running 6800GT's and GS's off the stock 250W power supplies. Since I have a 305W, I think I can pull it off.

I ended up ordering the EVGA 6800GS 256M on sale for $194... I hope it works!

Thanks for your help on this.

The XFX 6800GS has a higher stock clock speed and is only a few dollars more. I'm sure there's still time to cancel and reorder. :)

I also have an X300, but I was thinking of an upgrade to one of the X1800's that are out. I wasn't even aware there was anything higher than X850! Those are around 450, though, but people are saying that they run more stable than 2 SLI enabled 6800's hooked together.
