  • Your Favorite Online Resource?

I just got my brand new ASUS A7N8X-E Deluxe with xp2500 barton and 512 corsair memory and I need to install it. I've built all my own computers, but I'm afraid doing this one wrong could mean too much time away from TG ;)

I understand there are some difficulties when upgrading a MOBO and keeping the old hard drive (and drivers).

Rather than ask you guys to hold my hand, I thought I would ask for online resources for upgrade how-tos.

    Some I found decent are:
    http://www.pctechguide.com/tutorials/MBoard1.htm
    http://www.windowsreinstall.com/install/other/motherboard/index.htm
    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;315341

    Any recommendations?

I upgraded my machine with the ASUS A7N8X Deluxe, 2500+ Barton and 512 MB mem... and I don't think I had to do anything other than replace them. The OS booted fine. Of course, I did a full rebuild of the HD afterwards.

I'd suggest a full rebuild of the HD if possible, but I don't believe you have to. I'm pretty sure I didn't initially.

So you installed the motherboard and just booted up your existing harddrive and xp original install, and then reformated your HD?

Certainly there is no hunting like the hunting of man and those who have hunted armed men long enough and liked it, never really care for anything else thereafter.

Yep. I didn't run the machine for long that way to see how it would react, but it booted and loaded the OS. I downloaded the latest drivers, etc and then began the rebuild of the HD.
