  • nVidia 7800GTX question

    Hello guys,

Well, just got my eVga 7800GTX today which is currently running in my machine.

Problem is, when I go to run BF2, the prgram begins to run and the before you get the " EA GAMES ... CHALLANGE EVERYTHING" the program ends and puts me back at the desktop.

I haven't tried to run any other games

EDIT: My EA SPORTS John Madden Football 06 runs perfectly.

I have installed the drivers that came on the CD:

    Driver: 8.2.1.2
    Date : 12/19/05

Also installed the DIRECTX 9.0 that came on the CD as well.

    System specs:

    AMD 64 3700+ San Diego
    2 GB Corsair Ram
    ASRock 939DUAL Mobo
    X-FI Fatal!ty

Any help would be appreciated ......

    Thanks ...

are these cards the ones that have fits with the X-fi...that might be your problem.
that sounds like a good idea trooper.

It would be X-Fi/Geforce 7800GTX/BF2. BF2 could be causing the conflict that Trooper mentioned. I know nothing about it, though. Have you installed the newest drivers from NVidia? They have newer ones than whats on the installation CD.

Try newer drivers, although it sounds suspiciously like a refresh rate issue. Are you using anything to override windows refresh rate?

Try www.tweaksrus.com - They make some very good moded driver sets for nvidia.

Well, Guys .. thanks for those who replied but it was a RESOLUTION conflict that i had set from my previous vid card ...

I deleted it from the " BATTLEFIELD 2 " directory and ran the game a VIOLA ...

I am running all HIGH settings at 1280X1024 with 2X AA and getting anywhere from 60-90 FPS ( dependintg on the map ) WAKE ISLAND i was getting like 93 FPS ....

And I looked for the nVidia/X-FI/BF2 conflict and found nothing ..........

I am glad you resolved your problem, but I strongly suggest you upgrade your drivers to 81.98.

Gixxer, push that AA and AF up, your card can easily handle it.

Try out the 83.20 v2 drivers from www.tweaksrus.com - they give a nice performance and IQ boost for 7 series compared to older drivers.

Bonehead, I have not tried the 83.40 but from what I have heard they are a little iffy on stability. On my rig the 83.20 v2 are the best to date I've used.

                      Is this correct Jaymind ?

Yep, that's what you should see Gixxer.

Have you snagged nHancer yet? http://www.nhancer.com/

                        Is worth the use.

Also, snag coolbits if you don't have it. http://www.nvnews.net/files/files.shtml

Oh, and keep an eye on the www.nvnews.net driver forums - good info there and some helpful people.

                          Jay ...

I installed that COOLBITS thingy and ran the OPTIMAL FREQUENCY SETTINGS in the OVERCLOCKING and it gave me this

                          CORE CLOCK FREQUENCY : 527
                          MEMORY CLOCK FREQUENCY : 1350

                          Now, my origianl speeds are:

                          450 / 1200

Does this mean that these are safe to bump up to ?

Gix, take that with a grain of salt, but it's a good place to start. What it is is a maximum your card achieved before showing artifacts to it's internal tester, but that tester is not a real world game. Sometimes the optimal is spot on (my 6800GT at 425/1100 works great - although my temps are starting to creap on me, the cards getting old).

Start small, bump the card to 480/1250 and run it like that for 3-4 days with all your games. If everything is stable and shows no artifacts, bump it a little more. You'll soon find what your top ends are, drop it down a bit from there and you should be good to go.

I think from what I've heard you should have a stable OC easily at 500/1250 or so, maybe higher depending on your card and cooling. Make sure to watch those temps also.

[edit] A good way to check temps and OC is to run a bunch of loops of 3Dmark 05 or 06 which will really stress the card [/edit]
