  • Help with new computer build

It turns out that the computer I "won" actually did not come preassembled. So while building it, I have come across the following problem when testing for the first time: Power seems to be working for CPU fan, harddrives, cd drive, motherboard, but I get no video or any systems beeps when booting up for the first time.

    CPU specs:
Mach Speed Viper K8M8MS Socket 754
    AMD Athlon 64 3700+
1 gig Pc 3200 DDR ram
    500 watt power supply
2x200 gb maxtor 7200 rpm HD
    Dvd drive

i have not connected the video card as I just wanted to setup up using on board video and sound.

    Any help would be appreciated

Hmmm.... if I am understanding you correctly, you just want to run on-board video, and sound? If so then go into your Bios, and be sure that these are enabled at boot. I think maybe some more info may get you some more help here.

Sounds like no power --- check if ALL the power cables are connected properly (sometimes there is an additional power connector). Also check the power switch on the PSU... It's late and those guys destroying your assets gave you a hard time.

12volt connector plugged in? Normaly near the CPU somewhere since its the CPUs power source

another problem might be the ram. Some 754 motherboards use slot1 nearest the cpu, and some use slot1 furthest from the cpu. Maybe its that?

yea, it was the 12volt connector. I thought you only needed that for a pentium processor. I guess I was wrong. Thanks a lot

Re: Help with new computer build

Glad you got it fixed. For future reference to other people that have similar problems with builds, another cause of this could be your CMOS clear/reset jumper being set to "clear". I know a few motherboard companies that have that jumper set to clear by default, and your PC won't start if it is.

Yeah, that 4-pin jobby is necessary for the AMD 64s.
