    ^^ Raid (?)

I'm gonna keep my current monitor and other minor things, I'll probably upgrade the case etc. The max my monitor goes up to is 1600x1200x32 (60hz), (samsung syncmaster 213T). So the questions are:

-Which graphics card do I get and why?
-Is it worth getting 2 raptors for raid 0? (I'd have to change mb's maybe I think? current one only supports sata2 and pata)
-Should I get 2 raptors (10000 rpm , sata 1) or two other hd (7200 RPM and sata 2) ?
-Any other suggestions / stupid things you guys see in my purchase that I should consider changing?

Also here are the other minor things I have picked out if you guys have any suggestions:

    CASE: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811133153

    Re: Upgrading my computer

I haven't read too much on ati's x1900xtx, but I think choosing a graphics card is mostly subjective because there generally isn't too much of a difference in preformance between the two. Like I said though, I'm not sure if this ati blows the 7900gtx out of the h2o. Personally, I like nvidia because their drivers seem to work better and more reliably then my experience with ati's. Plus, I just like nividia.
Other than that, I can't suggest anything about raid or anything like that, I'm planning to switch to raid when i have the time and cash. All I know is that your rig will rock with those components you have listed!

      Re: Upgrading my computer

The 1900 is faster than the 7900, so you might as well go with that unless you're predisposed towards nVidia for any reason. Personally I would go with 2 7200RPM SATA 2 drives instead of 2 raptors, because the huge increase in storage is probably going to mean more to you than an increase in speed, although if you really want speed then obviously your best bet is the raptors. Personally, I'd go for an AMD proc over an Intel proc; they're just faster.

        Re: Upgrading my computer

I would go with the ATI 1900 - you can find them a little cheaper and they are faster, plus some other benefits that make them a little bit more future proof.

I abhor RAID in a personal computer and you'll never hear me recommend it, but the raptors are nice. Hell, even get 1 smaller raptor and 1 very large SATA2 drive (one for games, one for storage).

And personally, AMD over Intel right now no doubts about it. It maybe a different story when Conroe is out, but unless you need to heat your house with the computer stay away from that Intel -you can get the same/better performance from a cheaper AMD chip.

Yeah, jaymind brings up a good point; if you don't want data redundancy you can always get one raptor and one 7200 RPM drive.

            Re: Upgrading my computer

            Hey all,

Jaymind, I'm an AMD guy too....but I've heard very good things about Presler...are the heat issues still there with those chips like the older P4's??

            Thanks,

              Re: Upgrading my computer

From what I've read presler has a lot of heat issues but I'll take a look at AMD and see if it is more cost efficient. I've never bought an AMD.

I'm also an AMD guy. I had a p4 in my dell before I built my first build with a 3500+, and haven't looked back at intel since.
