  • Internet Explorer not responding?

When I open up IE it goes right to my home page but when you insert a web address it doesn't do anything at all. You can set the home page to whatever you want and it goes their in 1 sec but for some reason when you try to type in the address it just doesn't work. I ran a virus scan and it didn't find anything. Anyone ever ran into this before? I don't get any error messages either.

How long has this been going on? Have you rebooted? Do you have any orphan processes?

Have you tried any other browser like FF or opera?. And have you fun Adaware or maybe even the mircosoft beta spy ware remover.
that sounds like a good idea trooper.

I use FX all the time but my fiance uses IE. Adaware didn't find anything. Ill try to shut down some processes and maybe I'll find the one that is screwing everything up.

Winzip also doesn't work now, don't know if they are connected but it just freezes when you select a directory and stops responding.

*Just found this http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/918165 I noticed that when I opened IE verclsid.exe comes up. I did just do a windows update the other day. Im pretty sure this is the problem http://news.yahoo.com/s/cmp/20060415/tc_cmp/185302896

            I've got nothing helpful. Sorry.

I fixed it, I just uninstalled the patch which caused the problem. I'm sure their will be a fix for it soon.

                Re: Internet Explorer not responding?

The Yahoo article mentioned just hiding (renaming) verclsid.exe as a workaround. That should prevent IE from running the malicious COM objects that the patch is supposed to protect you from. (It also prevents IE from running benevolent ones.)

Why does your fiance use IE? Could you slip Firefox in, appropriately disguised? ;)

I use Firefox or Seamonkey (the suite) exclusively for regular web work and only use IE for Windows Updates and a couple of Win2003 server admin things that have ActiveX components (WSUS and Trend Micro AV).
