  • PC security software?

    Any recommendations for Anti-virus/adware/malware software?

I'm starting fresh and was wondering what people are using... Norton vs McAfee vs whatever?

Also, lemme know what you're using for firewall SW... i've run peerguardian (basic port-blocking/monitoring app), but what do you guys use?

aVast for AV. I've also seen good comments about AVG. Both are free for home use.

      Zone Alarm Free for firewall.
      I'm using AVG for anti-virus.
      Spyware S&D, Ad-Aware, and Microsft Anti-Spy Beta for Spy/Adware .
I also use CCleaner periodically as well.

      All are free...

Very happy and I have few (if any) problems.

BitDefender (3 user license on desktops), Avast on the laptop, BoClean anti-trojan (one time subscription), Smoothwall linux based firewall with URLfilter (a Squidguard based web proxy domain/URL/IP blacklist/whitelist), AdAware for on demand scanning, Spybot for on demand scanning, Spybot host file. No specific SW firewall (built in XP).

ClamAV on my mail server. Hand-crafted set of iptables firewall rules on my Linux gateway.

I no longer use MS AntiSpy, nor have I used CCleaner, but I use the rest regularly and am quite pleased with them.

              ZoneAlarm

AVG Hmm, I just noticed that Grisoft acquired Ewido, which was another security app that I have used and was pleased with...

I'm using norton internet security/antivirus/firewall and spy-something S&D. I can't stand norton and need to switch myself, but my license doesn't expire for a few more months. I don't want the last of the duration to go to waste so i'm leaving it on and using it for now.

Spybot S&D and Ewido security suite. No Anti virus software but considering AVG

Used to have Norton Internet Security, but it slows down too much and is buggy (periodically blocks all access). McAfee is okay, but only soso. Sorry for geing not more specific. Now I used Windows ONecare and it seems to work well. Hardly noticable, and it has (in addition to anti-spyware and firewall) auto-defrag and backup. It also updates your windows and does the dishes. All for $20 a year for 3 machines.
