  • Linux printer support

With TacOS gradually moving towards an alpha release, I'll need to buy a new printer (there's no support for lexmarks). What's the best brand to go for in terms of linux drivers? Ideally, I'd prefer an Epson, but I'll settle for HP.

Epson and HP are well supported.

Cool thanks. Are you planning to include any drivers with TacOS?

Since I'm having so much luck with Ubuntu, I'm thinking that that's a yes.

Either they will be right there at install, or an easy apt-get away.

That's great news. Looking forward to seeing the finished product!

HP hands down. Great quality printers especially if you get a mulit-function printer, Scanner Copier and Printer all in one. Ink is cheap and lasts a long time. Epsons i see moving more toward high end work, and photos. I have a HP 1315, bought it for 100 bucks, Great printer. I have used the Scanner/Copier a ton and have never had a problem with it
that sounds like a good idea trooper.

I have had a brutal time geting my HP PSC2200 all-in-one served out from my Linux server for the machines on my network. After many tries, I am using SAMBA to share it (CUPS was a disaster), and I can print successfully, but the page margins refuse to align. My HP LJ4ML has been much easier.

                  Re: Linux printer support

Really depends on the printer. Some of the low end HP LaserJets may not be supported because a lot of the processing is down by Windows drivers. Older HP LaserJets work like a charm, as icky found out.

Your best bet may be to go through this site and look up the particular printer you want to buy.
