  • What do you want to see for Setting Up Ubuntu Part 3?

I put it to you guys. Just an informal survey.

    Some thoughts:

Skinning Ubuntu (in preperation for TacticalOS).
    Using WINE instead of Cedega
    Game Specific Configs
Resources you need to know about.
Linux Basics (Linux for noobs, linux 101, WTH is a commandline anyway)

    Discuss.

How to get those things installed in parts 1 and 2 to work correctly. Still haveing some CSS problems. i got all the fonts installed, installed older versions of Cedega. It will load for 3 minutes in game then crash as soon as i start to shoot.
that sounds like a good idea trooper.

That one I don't have an answer for. Seems that CS:S is crashing in different places for different people after the last patch.

      Here's what I have done:

      Installed missing xlib.
Installed cedega---->then updated to latest release.
Installed HL2 first---> Installed the game, ran steam, updated game.
Installed CS:S------> Once that was done, updated and ran game.
Installed HL2 DM-----> via Steam, and ran game
Installed Installed sIn Episodes----> via Steam, ran game
Installed Mods-----> unwrapped with regular wine, then copied into Cedega.

      All games run fine.

Generally, when games die on Cedega, the issue falls into one of the following categories:

      1. Driver issue (sound or video driver is broken-can be easy or hard to fix)
      2. Game issue (not much you can do about that-if it runs, it runs)
      3. User issue (most common)

Did you try any of the debug modes to see what is wrong?

Supposedly, STEAM runs on WINE just fine. That may be an option as well. Install WINE, and run wine steam.exe and see if the game works.

        How about a troubleshooting thread?

More resources would be keen, as well as a WINE-tasting section.
