  • what to upgrade

I recently found some new cash in my hands, and I am wondering what to spend it on

    Here's what I have now:

    AMD Athlon 64 2800+ (1.8Ghz)
    Nvidia Geforce 6800 GS (256MB)
    2 x 512 RAM (DDR I think, 1 RAM slot left)

I upgraded my video card not too long ago, so I don't really want to replace that
I could get a 1GB stick of RAM right now, or I could save up a bit and get a new CPU

    Any thoughts, advice?

Ram or CPU, depends on your budget.

      Re: what to upgrade

How long do you intend to keep this PC? The CPU and RAM type won't be around for much longer. I would go with a RAM upgrade since it'll be easier to find a used CPU later on if you plan another upgrade.

What sound card do you have? You could probably fit in a new sound card with new RAM for the same price as a new CPU.

      - It's who you game with.

Also what PSU do you have??
Buy a decent one and it will fit into any future upgrades nicely as well as giving good stability in your current setup :)

I got a sound card recently, not a very good one though. I think it was a Cobra 850, just enough to use my surround sound speakers.
My power supply is 400 watts
My price range is i guess up to $200

New RAM, but if you are going to upgrade your CPU, wait until July 24th because the AMD processors will drop in $$$ by 50%.
