  • Adobe Acrobat alternative?

I'm looking for an alternative to using Acrobat. Open source would be cool. Are there any free solutions out there that let you create and edit .pdf documents?

A quick Google search (create edit pdf open source) gave me Cute PDF.

    I know nothing about it.

OpenOffice can create them, certainly. I don't know if there's anything non-Adobe that will let you edit an existing one, though.

foxit reader will allow you to edit a pdf and print the edited file, but to save the edit, you have to buy the pro version...

I think this is the feature that I really want. It's a hundred bucks for the PDF Editor, though...

I have used Foxit PDF Editor before. It has a pretty impressive feature set. I found Nitro PDF Pro (nitropdf.com) to be a better buy though. You can pick up a copy for around $70-$90 if you look hard enough... I got mine for $80 on Amazon.

My Ubuntu setup came with evince, not sure if it's avaliable for Windows though.

If OOo does support saving as PDF, I'd use that. Great software package OOo. :)

I read this about a year and a half ago:
Maybe Foxit isn’t the Best PDF Reader?

and have been very happy with it every since.
A couple of months ago I was stressing about how to fill out a job application (it was a PDF file for download), and remembered I had this installed. Worked perfect, and used the free version.

                    Re: adobe pdf freeware?

Yeah, I recently found Foxit Reader and been using it cause it seems like it takes less time to open .pdf documents and not to demanding on my system. I like it but have not really fooled around with it very much so don't know to much about it besides using it to read .pdf files.

                        Thanks :D

I bid you adieu -- needed foxit to fill out some visa paper work. I'll be in eastern europe for a year or so... no more gaming for me.

LoL my thoughts exactly... i knew you'd appreciate that! Now, if I could bring it with me, that'd be great --- but I'll end up with a company lap top for my stay.

Adobe announces a new vulnerability this week. Looks like a good reason to download one of those alternatives listed above. (I'm using FoxIt.)
