  • Windows 2000 machine random reboot...

    I have a 2000 machine at work that is randomly rebooting. any ideas?

    I had that happen intermitently with one (there have been many) of my Win 2K Pro installs and I have (had) no reason why. I suspect it had something to do with video drivers or a peripheral device but I don't know that much about computers. My current install has been going for months without this happening at all... I don't know but I don't think its a big deal unless critical work is being done on that system. I wouldn't worry too much about it but I always found a fresh format and install works wonders to pep a sluggish or misbehaving system. Can't be much help otherwise...

      1. When did the random reboots start? After loading some driver/software/hardware?
      2. How often does it reboot?
      3. Checked the event viewer? Control Panel> Admin Tools> Event Viewer

        Kind of sounds like the msblast virus also, check that maybe do all your windows updates and virus checks
