    Re: New Rig

Nice setup. I have a similar setup.

The one suggestion I would have is to get a sound card. The onboard sound device uses CPU cycles to process sound. It's like running a video game using an onboard graphics chip.

I'd recommend the creative x-fi xtrememusic. I just purchased that board and love it. Others have experienced problems with the x-fi models. You can probably pick up an audigy 2 or audigy 4 model fairly cheaply. Look for something that supports EAX. You won't be disappointed.

Sounds like a great system, any reason as to why you didnt go with the nVidia nfoce 590 setup?

Not that the system is lacking CPU power. It's not like using onboard video since video is more crucial to high fps. While an X-Fi would help out, I would say it's better to get one for EAX effects and higher sound quality. I often find onboard sound to be tinny and not as full as a separate sound card.

Stayed away form the 590 as it was out of stock.

          £700 GBP instead of £900.

              Re: New Rig

I recommend the Core 2 Duo over the Pentium D. The Pentium D is much hotter than that of the newer Core 2 Duo and is also much less efficient among other things. (b/c the D is just two P4s side by side unlike the Core 2 Duo has a shared architecture)

Also make sure your PSU is a dual +12V rail type and each rail has at least 12Vs. You especially need it if you do SLI config with higher end cards.

Why two Geforce 7300GS in SLI rather than one Geforce 7600GT? The latter might cost $10-15 more, but I think you get better performance out of one 7600GT than two 7300GS.
