I would go for dual monitors off of the same video card, as the X1950XTX can easily handle another one. As for the HD's, mabey get just one 320gb and a smaller one (raptor) at 10,000 RPM.

From what I understand, at this point in time it is kind of silly to go with the FX series over a core2. the E6600 is faster than the FX-62 in a lot of cases and about half the price. With the money you save on that you can make yourself a 8800gtx rig:

      PLEXTOR 16X DVD±R DVD Burner
      Model #: PX-755SA
      Item #: N82E16827249006 $105.99

EDIT: oh yeah, I just copied those drives from your other build. I would go a head and get a smaller/faster raptor for your windows drive too.

        Re: PC for a friend

I'd prefer to go with socket AMD and socket AM2 cause of the upgrade paths for the future.

As for the 10k rpm raptor, are they worth their price?

Also, i changed to OCZ ram from Corsair

He may get another monitor in the future.

If you are willing to pay for 35-40% faster sustained data transfer rate, the answer would be yes.

What sort of upgrade path are you looking at? The FX-62 is far overpriced for the performance you get.

Not sure if it is wise to bank on the future of AM2. Sure, AMD's first set of quads will run on AM2, but I'm guessing they will move right over to AM3 when it's ready. If I were you I'd just buy the best possible system now and ride it until it can't run up to par. You'd be spending $700 on a FX-62 when it preforms about the same as a $200 E6400. And if your waiting for upgrades latter on, why buy the top line processor? Why not just get a 3800+ X2 for $130 and wiat for the quad cores (or some other newe/better AM2 CPU)?
