  • How do you actually access the BIOS?

    like it says on the tin ^^^

    I'm planning to see if I can overclock my gpu a little, and whether or not my proccessor was overclocked or if it runs at a standard 3.0ghz, since I've never seen one that does.

    but yeah, that's about it, bid welcome to the modding/overclocking newb :D

    Ussually keep pressing 'delete' during boot up, literally straight after computer powers up or resets.

    What processor you got, mines a dual core 2.13ghz, apparently they clock to 3ghz :D

      GPU overclocking is done within the OS in the driver control panel, search on Google for "[manufacturer] overclocking".

      It will usually say on the POST screen what button you have to press to enter the BIOS configuration screen (usually just called 'setup'). Typically it is the delete key.

        ohh, it's not one of the f2/f12 options, is it?

        lemme go try :D

        all I know about it is this (from DXdiag):

        Processor: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.00GHz (2 CPUs)

            Re: How do you actually access the BIOS?

            I tried pressing the delete key (didn't work, I just got an 'incorrect key press' message)

            f2=setup
            f12=boot menu

            I went to setup and achieved a kind of blue screen, with options down the side, but, apparently, none of the fields were changeable, and in video, it just had the option of choosing between the PCI and PCIe ports.

            so either I've gone to the wrong menu, or the bios doesn't have the options? :D

              Re: How do you actually access the BIOS?

              As someone mentioned before, GPU overclocking is not done in from the BIOS configuration screen. You can do it from the control panel in the software the manufacturer of your GPU provides you.

                for GPU Overclocking

                Nvidia = Riva Tuner

                ATI = ATI tool

                for CPU overclocking, it's the BIOS
                however if you bought your PC from a manufacturer (didn't build it) you out of luck because they lock their BIOS'

                  yeah, after trawling through some links, I eventually came to 'YOU CANNOT OVERCLOCK A DELL' which would explain the locked fields, ahh well, another excuse to annoy my parents :D. Anyway I've got rivatuner and 3Dmark03 going, so I'm gonna tinker a little :D

                    okay, that didn't take long did it? :D

                    HELP!!

                    riva tuna keeps on saying to reduce the clock settings even when it's below the default.

                      ATI tool does an excellent job of overclocking nvidia cards as well (and I find it a bit easier to use) :D

                        If you need to ask 'how to access bios' I'd suggest staying away from the OC'ing.

                        No offense, but there will be alot more upset how to questions if your system goes unstable and you're unable to get online for more help.

                        www.tomshardware.com You can learn ALOT if you look through the old stuff... also, very comprehensive forums for all things computer.

                          turns out I HAD already accessed the BIOS ages ago, I just didn't know it :D

                          and besides, I've got to start somewhere

                            nvidia also has ntune which i believe you can get from their web site....

                            you can adjust everything with it,,, from cpu to graphic's to mem overclocking..

                            but like you said its a Dell

                              I would suggest using RivaTuner to OC your graphics card.
