  • USB Headset

    Looking for a new headset.

Currently using a logitech 300 USB headset. I do not have a soundcard, I am currently using the onboard sound. I like the idea of having a USB headset. unfortunately my current headset is taped together, broken and in really rough shape. The wife has given me the go ahead to get a new headset fo my birthday. So I need advice.

I want at least 5.1 surround, USB, and of course a mic. Suggestions?

I think the Medusa-type surround sound is a gimmick.

I think you'd be better off with a good stereo headset. I'm using the Plantronics DSP-500s (which have been renamed, but I don't remember the new name) and they're great for games and movies, but mediocre for music. I'm very picky about speakers, though, so you might find them to be fine for music, too.

          Re: USB Headset

I've been quite satisfied with the Zalman 5.1 headphones. The biggest drawback is it doesn't have a mic integrated with the headphones. You have to buy the separate addon (just a clip mic) or fasten one from an old headset (many have done this). It's also doesn't meet your USB requirements.

For the Medusas... whoa, these things are expensive. I've looked up prices and they are difficult to find in Canada. You end up paying more than you would if purchasing from within the US. If you do get them, you end up liking them just because you paid so much.

I personally have grown to like 5.1 headphones. It's not as good as having a full speaker set but you still get pretty good indication of where sounds are coming from.

I have a DSP-500 as well. Very happy with them.

I believe the new naming of them is the .Audio 500.

This is one of the headsets I was looking at.

              The other is...

Never heard ofthis one though, but 7.1 surround sounds nice.

I have the Medusa 5.1 ProGamer and am well satisfied. Do a search and you will find a big discussion about it that will help you make up your mind.

                    http://www.ncix.com/products/index.p...20Technologies

Get the Tritton's from NCIX. Save on provincial tax to make up on shipping. Plus, NCIX is a reputable e-retailer.

                    http://www.directcanada.com/products...20Technologies

DirectCanada is even cheaper and cheaper shipping. I haven't bought from them before but they are a sister company of NCIX I think.

That does not really apply to me.

I woud be getting it from Tigerdirect.CA

Plus I would drive to Richmond hill and pick it up. Further to that I know people including a computer engineer that buys cheap crap from them for the computers he donates to Polish schools, and my Father, that have ought from them before with no problem.

That being said the other links are cheaper anyways.

Perhaps. They're both part of the same corporation, though...

I just can't let anyone mention TigerDirect without pointing out their horrible service.

                          Re: USB Headset

I've bought from Tigerdirect.ca a couple of times online. It's alright service I suppose. A lot of deals are killed by shipping and they don't often have great prices. It rarely gets any serious attention at RedFlagDeals and there are a lot of Torontonians on that site.
