  • mobo for audio processing

I'm looking for a motherboard to build a system around that will be used solely as a DAW. It needs to be stable, reliable and expandable, preferably 3 PCI slots or more, and firewire connectivity.

Anyone have any ideas? my budget is up to 150 bucks for the motherboard

You're pretty much looking for a mobo that anybody would want for any system. The only requirements would be firewire, PCI slots (not a problem since non-SLI boards have plenty), and probably something that supports multi-core processors.

Have you given any thought to processor brand (Intel or AMD)?

Definitely going with intel, even though I have an affinity towards AMD.. right now they're putting out the better product.

I would pick an Intel chipset mobo. Have you checked specialized DAW websites for input ?

I'd go with an Intel chipset too but the nVidia chipsets are good as well. For Intel, look for the P965 chipset. Although, not all of them come with onboard firewire. If that's a requirement, the price goes up and it eliminates a lot of choices.

If you don't need onboard firewire, check out the Asus P5B or Gigabyte DS3. They're in your price range but pretty close to the limit or a bit over depending on where you buy it.

Are you decided on what's going in the PCI slots? You could get a firewire add-on card.
