Halo 2 requires XP even though it doesn't require DX10. I believe it's the Windows Live gaming thing that's only supported on Vista.
Vista is the only way you'll get DX10. From what I've read, it's something to do with a complete restructuring of how DX interacts with the OS so it will not be compatible with XP. If it is possible, I don't think it'll be done from the way MS has been planning DX development.
Don't worry though. I hear it's a game that has too little, too late.
I just picked up Halo2 and was not aware of the Vista OS requirement. You must have Vista or go through some hack to make it work. Iíve been able to get Halo to play the startup screen and setup but nothing more.
I have read about some peeps making Halo2 and Shadow Run work on XP. Wish I had the skills to make it work.
Just search the net for Halo2 XP and get lost in all the junk.
There's has only been two Vista/DX10 only games that have been released: Halo2 and Shadowrun. Someone at Microsoft evidently thought that this was a great idea because gamers would flock to buy Vista just to play these two. Not.
