  • Creating PDFs

    Hey all,

Looking for some help converting word documents to PDFs (on 64bit-Vista). I have been sending out alot of documents and this is the preferable format for me. Just wondering if anyone out there had a solution for me (right now I'm using adobe's online service, but it's slow). I am on a student budget (read: no budget) so low cost = better. Adding security (no copying) would be nice, but is not essential.

    Thanks in advance.

    Re: Creating PDFs

Take a look at Ghostscript. It should have a PDF renderer and it should also allow for some simple batch scripting I believe:

I believe you print to a postscript enabled printerdriver(redirect output to file in the printerdriver) and then work ghostscript magic on those files(from the printerdriver).

Google a PDF writer/creator/printer. There are a ton of free ones. I use PrimoPDF that's based on the Ghostscript that Panzer posted. It doesn't have ads and you can print anything to PDF.

Here is the one I usually stick with (if you don't need other Adobe options): http://www.cutepdf.com/

It works with Vista (32/64-bit) as well as XP.

And it has been free for years (still is).

I work IT, and when someone needs to save a PDF file everyone once and a while (3 times a month) we set them up on PrimoPDF instead of buying a new Adobe License. Its free, works great, and is easy to use. I highly recommend them.
