    The Story and Problem
Well, my system has been locking up during the loading into Windows part (after you login).

I've done a uninstall of the 169.21 drivers in safe mode yesterday. I then restarted and logged back into Windows (without incident) and reinstalled the drivers.

Unfortunately, about an hour ago, I cold started my computer (like I usually do in the mornings) and it kept locking up after I logged into Windows. So I went and logged into Safe Mode. Once in Safe Mode, I made a small backup of my important data and uninstalled the nVidia 169.21 display driver.

    My Plan of Action
    1. Install an older driver version.
      • Restart system and backup remaining files.
      • Turn system off, wait 5 minutes, turn system back on. Worry about system locking up.
    2. Clear partition, reformat with NTFS (Quick), Install Windows XP anew.
      • Reinstall some games, drivers, etc.
      • Hope to God system doesn't freeze again.
    3. Let system gather dust, leave 9th, wait 6 months to a year for funds for new system. Build new system. Swear up and down.

    My First Question
    1. Are there any other solutions I should explore? Suggestions? *desperate plea*

As silly as it sounds, a system restore might work if you've turned that feature on. It could remove whatever was done that causes the lockup.

Or, uninstall the 169.21 drivers and use an older version that doesn't cause a lockup. This is assuming that the 169.21 drivers are causing the problem. It seems like it is since you can log in after uninstalling them. I use an older 15x.xx version because anything newer than it will cause screen corruption so there's no shame in using an older version. It'll keep the system going until you get your new one.

If you want the new drivers, you could try a repair install. It'll keep all the registry entries so you won't have to reinstall all your software. If that doesn't work, you can always do a full reinstall.

      - It's who you game with.

You might also try a driver cleaner utility, like http://www.drivercleaner.net/ Then install the older version.

We need to keep you around, so let's band together here! :)

          Update #1
I ended up installing a 162.xx driver since that was the last one that I had before the 169.21 version.

I'm going to backup my files now. Then I'm going to clean my drivers completely using DriverCleaner, then a fresh install of the 162.xx driver.

Then I'm shutting down completely for about 20-30 minutes then a booting back up. I'll update everyone again in about an hour...hopefully. :|

          Edit Update:
The files backup is taking longer than I had hoped. I should be done in another 4-5 hours (already burned 12 DVDs).

              Update #3

              It's stable for now.

If in the morning, the system locks up again after Windows login, I'm wiping the hdd and starting anew.

                Update

Well, rolling back the driver to a older one seems to have solved the crash/freeze problem. My system didn't lock up this morning. :)

Thanks to those who helped. :)
