  • 8200 or 6850?

Okay, looking at new parts again and both the E8200 (45 nm) and the E6850 (65 nm) has dropped in price to where they're on my consideration list for parts for my next system.

My initial look at was the E6550 and had wanted to OC it that to 3.0 GHz.

My question is this: should I look at the E6850 or the E8200?

Is the 8200 the one with the half-height heatsink? Does it perform cooler than the older E6850? Easy for it to overclock to 3.0 Ghz without a bump in bus speed?

(My future motherboard can support either, so no worries there.)

Still can't say it? Call me Acorn then. -.-

The E8200 will of course run cooler, even with the much smaller stock Intel cooler, due to it's 45nm die.
But why on earth would you go for the 8200 when the 8400 is only $10 more?

It is actually the exact same price as the e6850, and the same clock speed, but is actually a bit faster (possibly 10-15% in some apps). And by going with the e8400, if you did want to overclock at some future point like you mention, it is possible to go over 4.0 stable on air with a good cooler and air flow in your case.

WTH... I couldn't find it on NewEgg earlier. But yesterday while I was at a ACM meeting discussing overclocking and such, one of the mods found it, but I couldn't this morning...

Yeah, well that's the one I wanted. :)

Great! Thanks Bamboo! *chews on bam*
