  • Dell Ultrasharp 2408WFP 24" Widescreen LCD

We have talked a few times about which 24" LCD someone should buy, and I mentioned how much reviewers liked the Dell model. This review was just posted, so figured I would pass it on. Personally, I would love all the connection options it offers, like the card reader and usb ports. Will have to drool for a while longer though since after rebates and sales codes it usually goes for $550 to $600.

    I find the codes here

But it is on sale right now with $100 off down to $579

I have the Dell 2407WFP-HC and I really like it. I bought a Spyder 3 to calibrate the colors and it looks great.

I would do a lot more research on this monitor before buying one. I briefly skimmed through that article but I don't think they mentioned that a new revision from Dell is expected to arrive in July because this first revision has had numerous problems. I would peruse through the Dell forums and read what actual users have to say about the monitor. Here's a couple links describing the major problems with the monitor.

One of the big things that me turned me off is that the Dell 2408 has incredibly high input lag. That first link I posted, they measured input lag at 64ms. That's not good for us gamers. I mainly play COD4 and the slow response time is probably going to leave me dead before I can have a chance to shoot my opponent.

Aside from that major issue, others have reported color banding, red and green tinting, sharpness problems, and colored halos around text.

Here's also a huge thread over on HardForum about this monitor.

I'm not telling anyone not to buy this monitor, all I'm saying is do some research before purchasing an expensive item such as this, because I was in the market for a new monitor, and I really liked this one, but after some due diligence, I went with another monitor.

I haven't gone looking for reviews, yet, but I was at Best Buy this weekend buying a new external drive to back up my home server ("on a clear disk you can seek forever") and saw the 26" Samsung (2693HM) for $100 more than the 24" they carry, $599 versus $499. I might just spring for it.

I have a similar looking 22" Samsung. I've been very pleased with it. Response time is great, colors are pretty good, and the overall design looks really nice.

the "good" 24" is what I dream of getting..that is about all the space I have for a TV in the back where all my junk is, and with that resolution and those connections, I could hook up EVERYTHING and it would just ROCK..!

If I ever manage to get my bonus out of these bastids I slave for, I am goign to get me one..of course I guess I should pay my wifes doctor bills forst.. :(
