  • Motherboard for intel dual and quad cores.

I was wondering whats a good motherboard that supports intel chips and the newer PCI 2.0 card although they are pretty much both standard. Also, i'm looking inot DDR2 Ram.

I'm asking since i want to start a project throughout the summer of building a computer.

PCI-E 2.0 and PCI-E 1.1 are compatible with one another. Don't make it a buying factor.

Re: Motherboard for intel dual and quad cores.

I debated allot about getting a pci-e 2.0 board or not. If you stick with pci-e 1.1 you can find some great boards from Asus and Gigabyte for cheap.

The one thing that worried me though was with new cards needing the power from the 2.0 slots (they provide more power through the mobo to the card, I think 150w vs. 75w?)

I ended up buying a DFI Lanparty DK X38 board. It has pci 2.0 but lacks some other features like fire wire, wi-fi, or e-sata connections. It does have one of the best BIOS in the buisness and comes with solid cooling. It was one of the cheapest X38 boards because it didn't have lots of features. It has a strong support community as well. A caution though, these BIOS' can be very daunting to work with due to the sheer amount of options.

i also looked at the DFI board, but for my music recording outboard gear, I had to have firewire..I ended up with an Asus P5n-E SLI board..$89..has everything in the world!

Re: Motherboard for intel dual and quad cores.

Your most likely gonna need a pci 2.0 because all the new cards are using and pci 1.1 is getting outdated so getting a stable pci 2.0 will last you for awhile and you can just upgrade ram, video card, cpu, etc without buying a new board.

Because asus motherboards are tested by time to be a reliable motherboard =). At first I bought ecs motherboards for my last 2 pc's... both had problems... then I switched to asus and poof! Problems gone
