  • 10 terrible uses for Windows

I saw this on Slashdot yesterday.

    http://www.networkworld.com/community/node/29644?ts

The idea of Windows-based medical equipment scares the crap out of me. And not just the machine used for my colonoscopy! :p

Coming from a Java background it amazes me that the manufacturers of the equipment accepts the extra cost of a pay-per-OS solution(like windows embedded). I assume it might be because the programmers at the company are most competent in OS locked languages.

i think it just comes from other OSes are just pain in the arse i love my linux machines there quick and when i need them to do a task they just kinda do it... however getting them running can be iffy (espcially with unsupported devices like my poor little AMD laptop was R.I.P .. JK i got pardus to load it properly:) but ubuntu couldnt figure it out.) then you need to get the software for it and with windows having a market share high enough to build orbital spacestations from theres more programmers for windows. it can also be support, any idiot can get a windows machine running and install software change settings.

Windows is fine when it works. But an open source OS is easier to fix when something is broken. Or are you buying a Windows source license so you're not dependent on the whims of a big company to fix OS issues?

In another thread, people are having trouble with Logitech drivers on Vista. Were it Linux and an open source driver, I'd just drill into the driver source to figure out what's screwed up.
