  • Nvidia releases new GeForce beta drivers for Windows 7

This is on tons of tech sites right now:

Windows 7 testers get GeForce drivers straight from Nvidia

Nvidia releases new GeForce beta drivers for Windows 7

The company has released a batch of drivers especially for the beta operating system, and it invites testers with GeForce GPUs to grab the update directly from its website.

In a press release flaunting the move, Nvidia notes that these GeForce 181.71 drivers support Microsoft's Windows Display Driver Model 1.1 specification. The drivers should also bring "increased performance and reliability" in 3D and 2D apps, including the Windows 7 version of the Aero graphical interface. Going by the official download pages, the drivers work with GeForce 6 through GeForce 200-series graphics cards, although apparently, WDDM 1.1 support only applies to GeForce 8 and later offerings.

I have an install of it on my old computer on a very very old harddrive. I'm thinking about buying a cheap WD 80gig harddrive for $35 from newegg when the final release canadit gets released next month, just to keep my Vista safe and easy to switch between.

Well, do you run any games on it? ArmA, PR? Any improvement?

Man, I can hardly run flash games on this old computer. And as talked about in the other current thread, Punkbuster doesn't play nice with Win7, so it is a no go.
But some one in the ARMA forum said they are running ARMA just fine on Win7

All the reading I have done I think the few people that claim they have a game running with Windows 7 and PunkBuster are just full of it and then if they really do have PB and windows 7 playing nicely together it makes me think... HACKER.

I have BF2142 running under Win 7, I just had to pull the usual PB tricks to make things work

I've been playing Sins of a Solar Empire and Left 4 Dead in Win7. They work great.

Apparently there must have been some better ways of making PB work with Windows 7 since I had last tried it on my desktop computer. I am using Windows 7 now on my laptop but have not even attempted to install any games that use PB cause I figured they ALL pretty much did not work with Windows 7.
I might try installing PR just to see if I can get PB working with Windows 7 and PR. I see where a few people claim they got it working. Laptop should be able to handle it if it will work.
