  • You Can Turn Off Every Major Windows Feature in Windows 7

I'll believe it when I see it, but this was just posted:

You Can Turn Off Every Major Windows Feature in Windows 7

It's true. Not only can you turn off Internet Explorer in Windows 7, but you can turn off basically every major Windows feature—Media Player, Media Center, Windows Search—everything but the core OS. WTF?
This may end up being HUGE for us gamers. I'm thinking use some imageing software to have 2 OS setups on your primary disk. One has a normal boot, the other is the same with games installed and everything extra you don't need turned off. You choose which one to boot into when you first start up, like when you are running a dual boot XP/Vista setup. :icon_eek::icon_eek:

Can I also turn off the built-in spyware and DRM services?

If yes, this actually would sound great.

only thing i can see is that windows 7 lets you disable more things

I have heard you can do some with vista, but some things don't stay turned off right. And turning it back on requires the disk.

What you can not do in Vista that can be done in Windows 7 easily is disabling or uninstalling IE8 as you can see in Bamboo's picture. As well as media center and media player, that is what is so surprising to me.
Only using something such as Vlite you might be able to remove these programs in Vista and most people just don't want to fool with that.

                  EDIT:
I just wish I could do this now!!!

Vlite is not really that hard, I took out a lot of unnecessary things with it (even IE in my vista install) and put in SP1 all at the same time, just a little bit of work to get it going right but after that it was very easy.

Can you turn UAC off completely in windows 7? I can turn it off in Vista but the damn OS just keeps nagging in the bottom right tray corner...

The nagging goes away. It nagged me on both my desktop and laptop for a short time, then went away.

In win7, the UAC is adjustable, so you can set it up to your needs/wants.

Actually the nagging icon stays on your system tray. I wish they would give me an option of removing that icon from my tray.

I have no nagging icon in Vista about the UAC. I have not turned UAC off in Windows 7 except when I first installed it and then found out the gadgets didn't work with it turned off and I turned it back on to minimal settings.

The nagging icon I'm talking about is the Windows Security Center with the white "x" over it.
