Some interesting news out about nvidia today. First the good news:

GTX260 drops to $169 in US

A quick check of some of the high end 55nm EVGA cards shows the prices have dropped a good bit :icon_eek:

Now for the possibily annoying news:

Nvidia plans Geforce GTX 275 against HD 4890

    Why I say annoying:
Itís also interesting to note that in the span of about 8 months, Nvidia has released over five discreet GPU models that perform within 10-15% of each other, ranging in price from $200-$650.
So now there are 3 versions of the 260 (all of which newegg still sells), the 280, the 285, and the 295. Now they want to add the 275. Considering the overclocked 55nm version of the 260 is almost equal to the 285, I don't see where the 275 fits in. Just more confusion for the consumer. :row__642:

    Re: Nvidia news

Wow. Way to confuse the customers, Nvidia. It is good news that the prices have dropped, but with three different versions of the same card still selling, I am just lost what makes the more expensive ones better.

      Curse you US price drops...
We never see drops that low in Canada. Well, maybe something will roll around by the end of next week when I decide to finally grab a 260.

I just can't figure out what the difference between these 2 models is:

FryCry 2 came with the "AR" version and its now out of stock

I can't believe that the 260's are so cheap now, this can't be good for nvidia's financial health, let alone AMD/ATI having slim margins already. So much for no price war.

Well, I guess they did hit in Canada.
NCIX has 2 GTX260 Core 216 models on this sale for about 240 dollars, both with mail in rebates. The XFX model comes with FarCry 2 and the EVGA comes with Mirrors Edge.

I grabbed the XFX model, which comes with a 30 dollar mail in rebate, making the total 209. I'm quite happy.

Just a heads up for any Canadians. :row__523:
