  • How to setup soundcard / speakers / headset

I recently built my new rig with the following audio components:

What I didn't realize when I bought the speakers is that there is a headphone jack but not a microphone jack. So I cannot hook my headset up to the speaker controller and be able to use the mic. On the sound card I can setup the headphones and mic but then my speakers would not be connected.

I'd like to avoid having to get behind the computer (which is under my desk) and swap cables whenever I want to switch between the headset and speakers.

    Any suggestions on this?

Do you mean plug the mic into the extension and into the back of the sound card and then the headphone into the speakers?

Yeah, that's probably the only way you're going to get it to fly without switching cables.

This is assuming that you're headphone jack isn't independent from your speaker jacks. My audigy 2 has a separate HP jack from the 5.1 jacks, so I can toggle between the two in the software.

How you connected with the speakers? Using the green, black, and red(pink) wires or TOSLINK(digital optical)?
If using the TOSLINK that would be the easiest way to connect the headphone/mic cause you can then disable the digital output from the software and switch over to the headphone and mic without needing to get behind the computer. If using the 3 wire connection then put green in line 2, black in line 3, and red(pink) in line 4. Headphones would of course be in line 1 and from what I read you can disable or configure the different outputs from the software the way you want.
Damn, I want that card now. I have the XtremeGamer and Z-5500 and it would be so much easier to connect the TOSLINK and mic. I can't do that cause I have a mini flexijack TOSLINK and it uses the same output as the mic, meaning I would have to connect my mic to the front panel on my tower and i just don't wanna do that or do with out the mic. BTw, on my card there is a big difference in quality using the digital optical cable(TOSLINK) if you don't already know.

Other than what I suggested I say extenders would be the only way to connect the headphone and mic.

Can you not connect the card(on the inside of the case) to your front IO ports, using a cable that came with the motherboard, case or the soundcard?

Use the cable extension like everybody else says. It's just an extension cord for 3.5mm jacks. The alternative is a splitter if you want all the cables running from the back of your PC. Although, your speakers may convert any surround sound it gets into stereo or mutes the speakers when plugging anything into the headphone jack so that would be a bonus.

^^ into green stereo-out jack on back of soundcard. speakers in one branch of the Y, headphones in other. Then headphone's pink-plug into soundcard too.
