  • Annoying Random Beeping Sound in Vista

I'm using Windows Vista Home Premium x64 and have a annoying Windows default beep sound playing in the background at random times.

I've already turned the "Windows default beep" in Control Panel > Sounds to "None". I've also found this Disable System Beep tutorial, but there is no "Beep" device/item when I expand the "Non Plug-and-Play Devices" category.

I can't figure out which program is causing this "beep" sound and the sound only started a few days ago out of the blue. It may be me, but it also seems to be sounding off more frequently.

Has anyone else had this issue and know of a better fix?

Edit: The first post (on the 3rd page) in this Ubuntu thread sounds just like the problem I'm having, all with the exception that I'm having it in Windows Vista not Ubuntu Desktop.

Um, can you be more specific or maybe point me to a link somewhere that describes this "open explorer window" thingy?

I know that even if I don't have any windows open (or minimized) and just sitting on my desktop doing nothing, I'll still hear the beep.
