  • Casual Graphics Card for a Friend

Hey guys, a friend of mine was looking for a graphics card and I am looking to see if anyone here has an idea for a recommendation. Below is my buddies email.

I was thinking about getting an ATI 4830 or an 9500 GT.

She needs the card to handle an Acer 19" monitor at 1280 x 768 resolution. She upgraded her motherboard a year or two ago but can't remember the make and model. She is also concerned with the new card interfering with the integrated graphics and to my understanding, it shouldn't be an issue. She won't be gaming, she just needs to do photoshop work and such.

    Thanks!

The 4830 is a much better card (slightly faster than an 8800/9800GT) but if she isn't doing any gaming, it shouldn't matter much.

Between the two, definitely the 4830. MUCH better card than the 9500 GT (which is about an 8600 GT in power)

For Photoshop work, anything above a 9500GT/8600GT is more than enough. If she were to get into Flash and basic animation, then at least the 9500GT.

well thats a 4650, thats still better than a 9500GT thought.

my suggestion would be the HD4670. despite having a lower amount of ram this card is better because the ram GDDR3 and not GDDR2. This card is also capable of playing some games a decent levels with her monitor size if she ever decides to game.

Keep in mind your power requirements too.
              The 4830 requires a 6 pin PCI-e power cable.
That being said, I agree with Reaper's suggestion. Solid card for 70 dollars.
